Prior to blogging, I taught people how to make money via eBay by uncovering their targeted audiences and crafting their descriptions to really appeal to potential buyers.  Wrote several books on the topic too!

But making money that way PALED more than oxygen on a clear summer’s Arctic night next to putting the power of the eBay affiliate program to my websites.  It helped me clear over 200K during 2004!  ‘Matter of fact, I was in the top 100 earners for eBay during that time.

Being the productive writer that I am, I followed up on that years later by writing Dynamic Affiliate Profit Linking and outlining in simple steps how anyone could make money off of targeted items for their website/blog.  And since I’ve now changed my work focus, you can download a copy of that for free here (I sold it on my other site for $47). 

While it was written several years ago, the techniques are still quite viable and useful for making money via eBay today.  Over the next few weeks, I’ll be adding several tutorials how you can take advantage of this rather powerful money-making technique with your own blog.

For the meantime, however, here’s how to begin!

DO THIS FIRST) 

Decide what you want to advertise on your blog.  Is it

• Model horses? 
• Unlocked iPhones? 
• Signed Harry Potter? 
• Telephone Insulators
• Ferrari Spiders?
• Illuminated Manuscript Leafs?

Just about no matter what you want to advertise…you can probably find someone selling it.  That’s what makes eBay so perfect for blogs - you can monetize just about any theme! 

Next,

Step 1.)  Sign up for a free eBay affiliate account.  

This will provide you with an an affiliate ID you can use in the tools eBay offers.

Step 2.)  Decide what you want to promote on your site. 

What will it be?  Cars?  Movie Memorabilia?  Snacks?  Elmo backpacks?  Home gyms?   Antique slide rulers?  1080p HDTVs?

Step 3.)  Visit the Affiliates Tool page. 

This will give you several options for including eBay on your site, like:

• RSS feeds
• eBay Editor Kit

and several others.  I myself use the Editor Kit quite a lot.  You can even embed them into your own Wordpress templates as well!

Choose your particular tool and fill in the creation options.  You can select different sizes, search criteria, location options, and seller IDs to customize your search results even more. 

Once you fill out the options, you’ll be given a script you can incorporate into your site/post.  NOTE!  Make sure you are in HTML mode when you add this code, else it will not work.

Step 4.)  Add the code to your post or to your page.

Voila!  Your site will be monetized by eBay.

That’s how I get the Macgyver goodies you see on the right hand colum at the top of this page.  Can you think of another way to get MacGyver-items on a blog that’s so easy?

Going beyond.

You can use the eBay affiliate kit in so many ways…it boggles the mind. For example, check out my free Ultimate Parakeet ebook and then click on Chapter 9 - Budgie Toys.  That particular page uses the Editor Kit as well.

You can incorporate the eBay Editor Kit in help desks. 

You can add it to news sites.

Review sites.

Remember, for just any place that uses php and html…you can embed editor kits that deliver targeted products to your viewers.
