How much of the world revolves around you?

World revolving around youMorning!

Yesterday I wrote the magnificently  insightful post:  How Stupid Are You?  Basically I discussed how important it is to know when you’re giving more than you’re receiving…and what to do when such non-optimal situations occur.

I neglected one very important step, however.

Here it is:

If you’re capable of it, you should try to understand from where the other person is coming as well.

And let me tell you, this can be extremely draining as well.

It’s really tempting to only consider your own feelings during times of angst and stress.  I’m actually pretty shocked that I lost enough emotional control to let that happen to myself yesterday; normally being able to see the other side of everything is the tried-and-true trademark of my wisdom.

Sigh.

You know, sometimes I just wish I didn’t have the ability to empathize and understand all aspects of an issue; life would be far easier if I just didn’t give a damn about things and people other than my family and friends.  It really would!!

But then…I wouldn’t be me.

And that would truly be a shame.

More sighs.

So what have I learned?

I’ve learned that the world revolves around BOTH sides in a disagreement.  The challenge is actually being able to perceive the lense thru which the other person is operating….and then being woman-enough to say, "….okay, I really do…understand."

So…after this enlightenment, I went to talk with my husband and ask for his blessing regarding my resolution.  Sure, I didn’t have to….but I pride myself on taking ownership of my decisions and wanted him to witness my journey.

And then I taught the lesson to my kids.

You know what they say - every moment….a teaching moment.

I”m getting kinda tired of these teaching moments, if you really want the truth.  :)

Anywhos, after I made my decision and took ownership of it as well, I felt much better; even though I’m still up the paddle without a creek, I’ve proactively made it okay….with me.  And that makes all the difference in the world.

It really does.

Enjoy,

Owlbert
