Infuse your blog post with a blog butterfly

Blog ButterflyHave you heard of:

The Butterfly Effect: but·ter·fly      [buht-er-flahy] - if a butterfly flaps its wings in Chile, does it trigger a monsoon in China?

An interesting concept, eh?   This teeny tiny scrap of animated life…might possess the ability to dramatically influence thousands upon thousands of men and women hundreds of miles away.

Tell me now…do your blog postings have the same effect?

When you post something to your blog, is it so astonishingly well-written and thought-provoking that other bloggers will:

  • Pick it up
  • Debate it in their blogs
  • Write about it on various forums
  • Stumble it
  • Digg it
  • etc.?

In other words….will it cause a monsoon of activity on the Internet landscape?

Hmmm?

Here are 3 ideas to help you infuse your blog posting wtih the power of the blog butterfly.

1.)  A picture is worth a thousand words.

Include a creative/dramatic/thought-provoking picture on your blog post.  For example, here’s the picture I created when posting about what beginners karate taught me about blogging:

SpongeBob and Cloverfield

(I had written about various styles of specific senseis, and how one could motivate SpongeBob Squarepants to take on Cloverfield).

And here’s something I whipped up when writing about crushing Internet cockroaches:

Crush cockroaches

Unique images almost always spark a desire to share.

I personally use Photoshop.  You can find excellent tutorials on it at

But did you know, there’s a comparable open source (read: free!) Photoshop-like package available online?  It’s called GIMP and you can download it here.  And don’t forget about free tutorials like

You can even use free online tools like

as well.

2.)  A kick in the groin is more effective than a wave of the hand.

Do you feel passionately about the topic on which you are expounding?  Dull boring milquetoasts never got talked about, but ferociously determined maurading mandrills will always generate conversation.  In other words, try to hit your reader with such an emotional punch the effects are felt long after the words have figuratively died away.

3.)  Predict the future accurately.

This is more of a way to attract and retain readers, mind you…not infusing just a single post with a blog butterfly.

If your readers think that by following your words, they’ll gain an edge with their colleagues, friends, family, etc., they’ll become diehard fans for a long long time.  I remember back in 1998 I was able to correctly forecast several trends in Internet recruiting, and hence was able to charge $177/year for people to be on my forecasts lists.

It’s not difficult to do at all!  All that’s required is an excellent rss reader (I use FeedReader and monitor over 100 feeds a day - it enables me to post at my flagship site Owlbert.com) and the ability to quickly pick out common themes and trends.   You can also search for trends at

Every morning while you’re relaxing with your coffee, you can see what’s happening in all areas…and zero in on the most talked about news online.

I hope these ideas spark some creativity in your mind!  Once you become adept at image creation, for example, it will take less than 5 minutes to dash off a thought-provoking image you can include on your blot posting.  Take advantage of that…and see your blog posts start to flutter online from one blog to another to another to another to….

ThankYouVeryMuch!
