Learn from my hair-pulling mistake when your visitor traffic drops to 0!

DOH!Ever been seized with a brilliant idea for a blog theme update?  You spend hours tweaking it and getting it juuuust right, ask for comments and reviews from dozens of knowledgeable folk, exude blood, sweat and tears just thinking about getting it perfect….and then…..TURN IT ON!

Your community LOVES it!  Comments come in, fast and furious - what a magnificent change you have wrought!  It’s been transformed into a medium worthy of epic poetry!  Why, it will probably earn a position in the Bloggers Hall of Fame!

And away you waft, dizzy on the cloud of OHMIGOSH it worked, it really worked!  Utterly exhausted, you collapse for the night and sleep away until wee hours of next morning (you can’t change your sleeping habits all at once, you know).  While unbeknownst to you, something eeeeevil is happening….

Freshly awake, you check out your Google Analytics stats and notice something weird - instead of being up higher than an elephant’s eye (or other variations of Oklahoma corn), it’s down!  And the next day, it’s even lower.  And lower, and lower…until your visitor stats register a big huge 0.

Agony, eh?

Well, if this happens to you - not to fear!

You probably simply forgot to copy your Google Analytics code snippet to the NEW template’s footer.php file.

And yes, this indeed did happen to me.  ’tis amazing how the easiest of actions (updating a template) can result in frustrating mental anguish far more agonizing than enduring country music during weight lifting at the gym (oh you done stomped on my heart, and you you mashed that sucker fla-hat…)

ThankYouVeryMuch!

I recently had to update my site, and alas, lost that particular post. :( I’ll write it again soon!

I had mentioned visiting the option

    Options | Reading

    Scroll down to

    Syndication

For each article, select: show Summary

NOTE - the option will also cut off the snippet if it appears before the end.

    Hope that helps!

  3. Thanks Barbara - thats really helpful. Whats a snippet?

A “snippet” is merely a short selection from your entire blog test; ie, perhaps the first 40 words.

I’m discovering there are other ways to ehance one’s feed, and will blog about those shortly. Lots of cool things you can do with your RSS feed!

    Hope that helps!
