The clock is ticking, you know. Soon it will be (gasp!) tax time!
But you know, taxes are a concern year ’round. And if, by chance, you have an insane love for taxes and tax time and the Schedule C and the 1099 and the …. you get the idea, did you realize you could blog about taxes all the time and generate an income as well?
Yes indeedy, it’s true indeed. And here’s how you can do this.

Step 2.) Get an Amazon and eBay and Commission Junction affiliate ID.
This is critical, because these two programs will deliver the majority of your commissions.
Sign up HERE for Amazon.com and HERE for eBay and HERE for CJ.
Think about it. You can buy Tax software at computer stores - brand new copies are also offered on eBay and Amazon.com as well. And tax-related books! And tax-related memorabilia (I kid you not). Here’s what some of the Amazon.com tax software looks like:

Next, you need to:
Step 3.) Set up your Tax Blog
There are three must-do things that are critical for your success.:
- Set up categories
- I’d recommend to start off simple, like:
- Tax News
- Tax Tips
- Tax Resources
- I’d recommend to start off simple, like:
- Incorporate anti-spam plugins (learn more here)
- Incorporate affiliate programs to blog template. Both eBay and Amazon give you tips on how to do this. On my blogs, I put the affiliate programs in my sidebar and also within the single page postings as well.
- Search on Commission Junction for Tax affiliates too. You can add their banner links to your sidebars.
So! You have the blog ready and waiting for you - it’s time to find tax goodies about which to write. Move to:
Step 4.) Discover Tax Feeds.
Go to Google Alerts and set up a comprehensive alert for
- tax
This will ensure you’ll be kept up to date regarding current tax news, tax blog postings, etc.
Then go to Google and search for
You should come across informative tax resources like:
- Tax Policy Center RSS
- Thomson Tax and Accounting Feeds
- Tax News RSS
- Financial Post Tax Top Stories
- Smart Money RSS
Add the feeds you’d like to your Feedreader.
Next, search for
This will deliver to your blogs that focus on taxes, such as:
Continue adding feeds until you have about 20 of them; that’s enough to provide you with a continuous stream of inspiration.
And once you have your ideas in hand….
Step 5.) Post!
Now you can begin writing your tax blog. Start off with some daily news, maybe blog about the House panel approves tax bill on housing crisis, add in some research, etc.. You can even add video clips from Youtube like these tax ones here.
Keep in mind it takes time to build a following…but write great tax-related content, and your visitors will grow. And as they see the discounts and tax goodies you offer on your site, your affiliate commissions should increase as well.
Nice, eh?
Hope the above is helpful!
ThankYouVeryMuch,
Owlbert

Hi Barbara,
Nice post!
You really laid out a very clear step by step plan.
Say your video is no longer available.
I’ve recently noticed on one of my sites & others that all of a sudden there are a lot of videos that are no longer available? “Were sorry this video is no longer available”
Is this something new, or has this always been an issue or does YouTube periodically simply clear out-delete older videos?
Thanks Again,
Dave
