Make money with an Olympics blog via Olympics collectibles and news - Profitable Niche Blogging

2008 OlympicsHave you heard of the 2008 Olympics that are scheduled in Beijing?

If so, you’ll know that there is a HUUUUUUGE market of diehard Olympics fans!  Not only do they adore following the Olympics, but they also collect Olympics memorabilia, look for HDTVs to watch the Olympics (NBC will offer an incredible amount of HDTV hours), buy Olympmics-sponsored goodies and much much more.

And thanks to the wonders of the Internet, you can make money from the Olympics as well by providing the niche audience current news, reviews and discounts for the things they crave most.

If you’re an Olympics fan…and you want to make money from this niche, you can set up a blog that, by the summer, should be bringing you in a respectable income.

Here’s how!

Step 1.)  Set up an Olympics domain name and put a blog on it.

Yes indeed, you can consider olympicdreams.blogspot.com, but why be so, well, uncreative?  Consider these domain names:

Now, it’s tempting to put a 2008 into your domain name…but remember, there will also be the 2012 Olympics as well! I’d steer clear of the actual year myself..

Want inexpensive domain resources?  Check out:

Once you have snapped up your domain name, you have to uncover Olympics goodies like collectibles, memorabilia, jewelry, books, car accessories, etc. to market.  Suavely move now into:

Step 2.)  Obtain an eBay and Amazon and Commission Junction affiliate ID.

This is critical, because these three programs will deliver the majority of your commissions.

Sign up HERE for Amazon.com and HERE for eBay and HERE for CJ.

Think about it.  If there’s one thing the world knows how to do, it’s commercialize everything imaginable (especially in sports!).  We’re talking Olympics mousepads, Olympics stamps, Olympics apparel, Olympics coins, Olympics nostalgia, heck, even Olympics Sponsors pins!.  Here’s what some of the current eBay Olympics goodies look like:

Next, you need to:

Step 3.)  Set up your Olympics Blog

There are three critical things that you have to do regarding your blog:

  • Set up categories
    • I’d recommend to start off simple, like:
      • Olympics News
      • Olympics Human Rights (big thing with China)
      • Olympics Sports
  • Download/install anti-spam plugins (learn more here)
  • Incorporate affiliate programs to blog template.  Both eBay and Amazon give you tips on how to do this.  On my blogs, I put the affiliate programs in my sidebar and also within the single page postings as well.
  • Search on Commission Junction for Olympics affiliates too.  You can add their banner links to your sidebars (currently you’ll see resources for the NBC Universal Store (they’re the one covering the Olympics), Ticketing companies and the like).

So!  You now have the blog set up and waiting for you - it’s time to find Olympics information about which to write.  Jump now to:

Step 4.)  Search Out Olympics Feeds.

Go to Google Alerts and set up a comprehensive alert for

  • olympics

This will verify you’ll be alerted whenever breaking news about the Olympics is posted.

Your next step is to visit Google and search for

You should come across useful Olympics resources like:

Add the feeds you’d like to your Feedreader.

Once that is completed, search for

This will deliver to your blogs that center on the Olympics, such as:

Continue adding feeds until you have about 2 dozen of them; that’s enough to provide you with a continuous stream of inspiration.

And once you have your ideas in hand….

Step 5.)  Post!

Now you can start posting about the Olympics to your Olympics blog.  Begin with Olympics news coverage, dabble in the Human Rights issues, post about specific Olympics events, etc..  You can even add video clips from Youtube like these Olympics Bloopers ones here.

Keep in mind it takes time to build a following…but write useful Olympics-related content, and your readership will grow.  And as they see the Olypmics memorabilia and other goodies you offer on your site, your affiliate commissions should increase as well.

Nice, eh?

Hope the above is helpful!

ThankYouVeryMuch,

Owlbert

  1. In addition to talking about Olympics coverage and human rights issues…. you should talk about the ATHLETES!

There’s going to be some amazing track and field. There are also some marathoners who many not want to run if the air is too polluted.

  2. Hey, thanks for your comment on my “Only Bush can’t go to China” post! Comments are a blogger’s oxygen :).
