Passing on what you have learned

Luke…..pass on what you have learned……

QUICK!

For what do you want to be remembered before you exhale your last breath?

(and no, it’s probably not, gee, if only I had spent more time on Twitter! :) )

For me, it’s that I’ve made the world a better place for my family and friends.

For as long as I can remember, that’s what my mom told me was the meaning of life. Some aspect of the world should have become a better place because you were in it. Your family, your friends, your city, your town, your 15 parakeets, your country…your very existence should have touched *someone’s* life and made it better.

Are you doing that now with your writings…your blogging….your friendships….your family?

Well?

Ever since my 20s on up, I’ve been blessed that a few special people had taken me under their wing and taught me wisdom that my youth could never have imagined. They became my teachers, and as the years moved along, I started to teach others as well. No matter what the issues were, I’ve always been able to pass on what I was taught decades ago…and enhance my student’s learning as well.

To this day, I still stay in contact with those who offered their wisdom when I didn’t even realize I needed it (Hi Bill!)…and I have participated in the circle by passing on what I have learned as well. And hopefully, I have taught my children the same cycle; you never know just when a critical bit of data you can learn from some obscure individual might be the difference between success and failure in the future.

So let me ask you again….

Have you honored yourself and your teachers by giving the gift of knowledge to those who can benefit?

Have you helped out fellow bloggers and colleagues when you see them on the path to utter non-productivity…and proactively suggested something to ease their way?

Life is a never-ending cycle of learning and teaching and being and doing. Hording your knowledge is selfish! But passing on what you have learned…and enabling your students to become teachers later on in their lives….is something of which you can be mighty proud.
