Seize Your Perfect Domain Name via The Owlbert Way! Day 3 of 5

Fireworks!Yesterday I had written about two useful questions you can ask yourself when choosing a memorable domain name for your blog:

  • Who will be my target audience?
  • What phrases/nouns/etc. are known by that targeted audience?

Today I’d like to focus on point number 3:

  • Are there any geographic/ethnic/niche/etc. aspects I should consider?

‘Tis a good question to ask.  Let’s say that you are planning to blog about rose gardening in the peachy state of Georgia.  Certainly, you can boldly rip that out of the equation and consider names like

  • RoseGardener.com
  • RoseBlogger.com
  • ChinaRoseGardener.com (currently available!)
  • TeaRoseGardener.com (currently available!)
  • FragarantRoseGardener.com (currently available!)
  • TheSmellyRose.com (currently available!)

But!  Why not take advantage of your state/city locale to brand yourself even more?  Think of:

  • GARoseGardener.com (currently available!)
  • GeorgiaRoseGardener.com (currently available!)
  • GARoseBlogger.com (currently available!)
  • GeorgiaRoseBlogger.com (currently available!)

Using your state/city/locale can be one way to snap up a memorable name.  Even though "RoseBlogger.com" is taken, "GARoseBlogger.com" is still available and depending upon how you position yourself, could be a very useful domain name indeed.

You can apply this technique to ethnic/niche aspects as well:

  • AsianRoseBlogger.com (currently available!)
  • MommyRoseBlogger.com (currently available!)
  • TheMomRose.com (currently available!)
  • IndianRoseBlogger.com (currently available!)
  • SenseiRoseBlogger.com (currently available!)
  • BikerRoseBlogger.com (currently available!)

See how it works?  You simply need to ask yourself

What are the personal characteristics I can apply to my blog to develop Brand Me?

Finding locales are very easy online!  If I was searching for Georgia city names, for example, I’d simply Google:

and uncover not only a list of cities, but regions, counties and more.

The benefits to the above are many.  First off, the majority of website visitors know how to spell state names/abbreviations or hobbies or ethnic words; it will be easy for them to remember your blog domain:

"Hey!  I just found the great site NYRoseBlogger.com!  And wow, the person is a Rose gardener in New York!  Just tack on the state abbreviation to find the site!"

Next, you’re taking advantage of having targeted keywords in your domain name…while still retaining enough individuality to stand out in the crowd.  After all,

  • "RoseBlogger.com"

is extremely broad;

  • "NHRoseBlogger.com"

is ‘way more localized.

Not only that, of course - a state/city slanted domain name gives you a great reason to write a Page about State societies or associations or organizations, which would help your overall search engine visibility to boot.  In the above case, some associations you could list might be:

I hope the above points have started your creative juices flowing!  Tomorrow’s tutorial will cover what to do when you’re still at a loss for that perfect domain name.  ’tis simple, actually - you merely need to step out of the box and turn your thinking upside down.  Luckily, this is actually rather easily accomplished; I think you’ll be quite shocked at the gems you are then able to discover.

ThankYouVeryMuch!
