Seize Your Perfect Domain Name via The Owlbert Way! Day 1 of 5
Have you ever heard the statement, all the good domain names are already taken? Did you quail with despair, as you wondered bleakly, my gosh, is it true? Am I beaten before I’ve even begun??
Well! Not to fear intrepid blogging readers of mine, for the above is a filthy lie I say! Yes, a lie indeed…as you can always, super-easily, craft a domain name that’s memorable, focused, targeted, and will stay in the minds of your readers for years to come.
A bold statement, eh? And yet I do stand by it, for I shall show you this week techniques you can employ yesterday to grab the perfect domain name for your blog. And you can take that to your feed reader and beyond.
Let me start by leaning back in my chair at my desk, taking great care not to topple over, steepling my fingers in front of me and intoning,
It ’twas a stark and corny night when the winds were eerily whistling across my living room (otherwise known as my children playing "Let’s see how fast we can run without bonking into Mommy’s computer!) and ….
Alright, I’ll cut to the chase. Over the past 15 months, I’ve lost 45+ pounds and was seized by an insane desire to start blogging about it. Then I realized, hmmmm, as I’m currently now in maintenance, why not blog instead about blogging tips FOR diet and fitness bloggers? After all, teaching is what I do - it should be relatively simple to slant all my knowledge to that particular niche.
Never one to sit still when I can zoom along at a million miles per hour, I started looking for a creative, dynamic, exciting, nail-biting, wow-izing domain name. And I came up with:
Diet.com!
alas, that’s already taken. So I ignored that.
Then I sat down and said to myself,
Self, what’s the problem I’m trying to solve? What’s the image I’m trying to evoke? Hey, what’s that odd noise I hear now that my children have gone mysteriously silent?
My plans were to blog for diet bloggers and fitness bloggers. So I checked out:
- dietblogger.com (the name, she be taken!)
- fitnessblogger.com (the name, she also be taken too!)
Well that one big huge flapping earlobe! Quite the bummer indeed. But ahah! I could combine the two!
- dietfitnessblogger.com (that’s available! Yippee!)
But now….common sense (which has an unfailingly annoying way of intruding on my grandious plans) pounced into my thought process. "DietFitnessBlogger.com" is a weee bit of a mouthful, wouldn’t you say? I sure would! What else could I do?
And then it came to me like a bolt out of the blue, like a tornado in the Land of Oz, like my children pouncing on me when I have PMS and only want to be left alone….
and I stepped outside the box.
I came up with the PERFECT domain name. And of course, because hardly anyone thinks in the, ahem, unique way that I do, that name was available. I snagged it and some year, I promise, I’ll start to build it too!
What was that domain name? I’ll reveal it this week, along with my Day 2 observations tomorrow on creating the perfect domain name. I think you’ll be most pleased with what you read!
For homework today, however, I’d like you to visit
http://thesaurus.reference.com/
and search on
and let me know what ideas that sparks to you. Thesaurus is a great resource for crafting super domain names! Perhaps you’ll be able to guess what the final domain name turned out to be.
Stay tuned for tomorrow,
ThankYouVeryMuch!
