What’s in YOUR coffee cup? Mine has floating strawberries! The power of community.

Can you believe that? Floating strawberries?
Well! Actually, it’s quite true! I attended the Mother’s Day tea party for my youngest son, and for a yummy treat, the kids donned on their Food TV personas and hand-crafted strawberry shortcakes.
Now, as a devout Atkins kinda mom myself, I shunned the cake and reached for my cup of paradise (ie, coffee). I was about to sip and enjoy when all of a sudden….
An opportunity arose! I’m used to enjoying various no-calorie sweeteners in my coffee…and other only thing I could spy with my little eye was (gasp!) real sugar! The horror! The agony! But instead of panicking and completely melting down being mildly unhappy, I chose to FIX (oh yes I did) the situation like so. I said to myself:
Self! Look at those strawberries on my son’s plate! I wonder how strawberries would flavor my coffee?
And once the idea emerged in my mind, it was only one small step from pointing in the opposite direction, asking my son Quick! What’s that? and reclaiming those strawberries to helping myself to 4 cut strawberries from the main bowl, plunking them into my coffee cup and bravely taking a sip.
The verdict? No taste addition whatsoever.
And hey, did you know that strawvberries float in coffee?
But I digress.
So! I next tried gently convincing the strawberries to chunk down (read: I smooshed them with my fork) and then! a noticable taste improvement happened. Not only that, but the strawberry texture was pretty good too!
Such are the scientific experiments of joy that are a daily experience in our house.
But let me now bring this post back to blogging and attaining your goals!
Tell me now…how do you deal with your blog when reality throws you a curveball?
- Do you handle it like a sheep (and wait to be told what to do)?
Or…
- Do you turn on a dime, take a Macgyver view, look around at what you DO have…and create something wonderful?
Well?
Let me tell you, I’ve had so many, ahem, opportunities for improvement by being bashed over the head with so many unexpected soul-searing agony-inflicting pain-producing challenges online…. I’ve now proactively taught myself to value the knowledge I gain by conquering them.
Are you the same way?
If not, here are some techniques to help you.
Step 1). Realize that problems are merely misunderstood opportunities in disguise.
Richard Bach says it best:
There is no such thing as a problem without a gift for you in its hands. You seek problems because you need their gifts.
My gosh, so true.
Step 2.) Be open to learning.
When difficulties arise, ask yourself:
- About what can I learn?
- What can I proactively uncover to help solve the issue?
- What is the knowledge I can gain to empower myself even more in the future?
You can find all the answers by Googling your particular issue. For example, if a plugin broke, just search for
- pluginName broke
ie
You’ll see it’s a very effective way to uncover answers yourself…and thus make your skill level set even more formidable.
Step 3.) When all else fails…ask for help!
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve helped out my Twitter friends and Mommy blogger friends and all-around super-duper friends with their technical questions. After all, the worse thing someone can say is, I’m sorry, but I can’t help you now…..but chances are, if you proactively ASK, your network will deliver.
Got a problem? Tweet about it! You never know who online will be able to send the answer for which you’ve been searching.
See?
Remember….nobody (except my mom!) knows everything. But everyone knows SOMETHING! Put all of those somethings together…and you’ll experience a power worth reckoning.
So! The next time you experience a challenge with your life, remember your coffee cup! Perhaps all you really need is a strawberry or two to spark your thinking…..and improve your situation more so than you’d ever believe possible.
Enjoy!

Hello! I found your website through your comment on Pro-Blogger’s entry on promoting your blog if you were starting over again. I was interested in seeing your blog because you mentioned you were a new blogger, and I wanted to see what an up-and-coming blog looks like. I have only had personal blogs before, but am interested in blogging professionally. I like your writing style for its lightheartedness and sense of humor. However, I found your overall webpage a bit confusing because there is *so much* on the page. I wasn’t exactly sure what the purpose of your blog was right off the bat. Maybe you can rearrange it a little, or make your subheading more informative? Thank you for the smiles; I will have to try strawberries in my tea and see what I think! Good luck to you.
